Before the Warriors get out of trouble and the quagmire, should Curry continue to play so many off-ball runs and screens? Should Schroeder be pulled from the starting lineup and switch to the bench to drive the Warriors’ second lineup and inject energy and surprise attacks into the bench? Strength is testing Cole’s coaching ability and wisdom.
The Warriors currently face two fatal bottlenecks
1. First of all, Curry’s off-ball running and multi-directional screening style. The 36-year-old Curry has been double-teamed by opponents many times this season. He often cannot get the ball for 3-5 minutes, and is even defended until a single quarter. He only took 2 shots and didn’t score in the first half twice. Curry couldn’t catch the ball at this point. The Warriors’ style of play, offensive system and key balls were directly blocked and trapped.
Every opponent is already familiar with and blocking Curry’s off-ball movement. The defensive efficiency is getting better and better, and Curry’s game is becoming more and more difficult.
Second, the second is Schroeder’s starting role positioning. Let Schroder switch to the bench and be responsible for driving the second lineup. Let him return to the sixth man role. This may be the direction for the Warriors to find the answer to the rotation of the lineup.
Cole clearly feels that the team atmosphere is very tight, and the players are going through more difficulties and adjustments, which is completely different from the joyful atmosphere of winning games at the beginning of the season.
“I like our players. They are very disciplined and moral. They care about the game and each other more. I believe in them. We can turn the situation around with unity and hard work.” Cole still has confidence in the players.
